Research on 2012 Business Status of 1,748 Rice/Wheat Wholesalers ~Significant Drop of More Than 30% in Total Profit~
Since the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011, rice prices have continued to plateau due to the concern over a rice shortage, which was further accelerated by the planting of less rice in accordance with the government’s rice paddy reduction program. Under such circumstances, discussions are underway concerning TPP negotiations and the termination of the rice paddy reduction policy. Rice and wheat wholesalers will still have to operate in an uncertain environment.
